World Humanitarian Day 2026: Dignity, Care and Reunion

World Humanitarian Day recognises the importance of humanitarian action and our shared responsibility to support people facing vulnerability and hardship. To mark the day, Little Light Women and Children Initiative (LLWCI) visited two institutions in Akwa Ibom State to offer practical support.

Visit to the Nigerian Correctional Centre
We presented gifts to support the growth and wellbeing of a newborn baby born to an inmate during her term. The gesture was meant to meet the child’s practical needs and show care and solidarity towards vulnerable persons in the correctional environment.

Visit to the AKS NAPTIP Shelter
We then visited the Akwa Ibom State NAPTIP Shelter, where survivors of human trafficking receive support, and donated essential supplies for their needs and wellbeing.

A story of hope
Some of the survivors we have supported at the shelter over time have since been reunited with their families. This is an important step in their recovery and reintegration. It shows why support for survivors must continue beyond the immediate crisis.

Highlights

  • A newborn at the Correctional Centre received gifts for her growth and wellbeing.
  • Survivors at the NAPTIP Shelter received essential supplies.
  • Some previously supported survivors have been reunited with their families.
  • Our partnership with government institutions protecting vulnerable persons was strengthened.

Looking ahead
LLWCI will keep engaging the AKS NAPTIP Shelter and other government institutions. We will support survivors through rehabilitation and reintegration, stay in touch with those we have supported to document their progress, and continue humanitarian outreach for vulnerable women and children.
