KEY INTERVENTIONS
Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law Campaign
We reached over 350 students across two schools – Comprehensive High School, Idu Uruan on June 23 2025 and Diplomat High School, Idoro Road on June 26 2025 with comprehensive education on gender-based violence and the VAPP Law. Students learned to identify various forms of GBV, understand legal protections available to survivors, and recognize reporting mechanisms.
International Day Against Human Trafficking
Little Light Women and Children Initiative partnered with NAPTIP, YOFCI and Law Enforcement Agencies to jointly mark World Day Against Trafficking in Persons celebrated worldwide on July 30, 2025 through a sensitization walk. The theme for the year was ‘Human Trafficking is Organized – End the Exploitation’.
The public was sensitized on some of the strategies perpetrators adopt to lure their victims and they were encouraged to be vigilant at all time.
Support to Child Survivors at the NAPTIP Shelter
Since October 2025, LLWCI has provided both welfare and educational support to child survivors at the NAPTIP Shelter in Uyo. The private tutoring in literacy and numeracy has boosted their education while at the Shelter, and kept their minds positively engaged pending their reunion with their families and reintegration into the society. Welfare items such as food and clothing are also provided to them. This support will continue till their reintegration and reunion with families.
Menstrual Hygiene and Teenage Pregnancy Awareness
In partnership with Global Female Leaders and Entrepreneurs Network (G-FLEN), we conducted a comprehensive awareness program at Comprehensive High School, Idu Uruan on June 23 2025, reaching 250 students. The intervention addressed two critical areas often shrouded in silence: menstrual hygiene management and teenage pregnancy prevention. Students received practical demonstrations on proper sanitary pad usage alongside education on reproductive health.
World Humanitarian Day at Mother Charles Walker Children's Home
On August 19, 2025 we commemorated World Humanitarian Day by visiting Mother Charles Walker Children’s Home with gifts, providing the children with food items, clothes and shoes. We shared not only material support but genuine human connection with children who often feel forgotten.
World Literacy Day Celebration at Street Mentors Shelter
On September 8, 2025, We celebrated World Literacy Day by visiting Street Mentors Shelter with books and educational materials for vulnerable children. Fifteen children (nine girls and six boys) participated in activities that included book selection, reading sessions, and knowledge sharing. Watching children select books that interested them, read with growing confidence, and share their learnings with peers was profoundly moving.
Support to Peabody School for Disabled Children (TeachAudacious)
The children of Peabody Schools, an Inclusive school which incorporates children with mental disabilities in Uyo were treated to an end-of-year party on December 12, 2025 with support from LLWCI. This event helped to boost the morale of the children as well as push the narrative for acceptance of children with disabilities in the society.
Digital Violence Prevention Training in Partnership with VOICER
On December 5 2025, Little Light Women Children Initiative held a webinar on Digital Violence Against Women, in alignment with the 2025 16 Days of Activism with the theme – “UNiTE to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls”. From cyberbullying targeting young girls to financial scams exploiting older women, digital violence affects women across ALL generations.
World Mental Health Day Activities
Mercy Outreach in Abak. On October 12, 2025 in partnership with Wonder Life Initiative, we conducted a street outreach tagged “We Care” in Abak. The team provided food and clothing to mentally distressed persons living on the streets, offering both material support and compassionate engagement that affirmed their inherent dignity. While we cannot solve systemic failures that leave vulnerable persons without adequate care, we can choose solidarity over stigma—and we did.
International Day of Persons with Disabilities
On December 3, 2025, we visited Miss Helen (a wheelchair user) and her child, bringing foodstuffs and celebrating a remarkable story of resilience, strength, endurance, learning, decisions, overcoming, and hope for the future. Miss Helen’s journey embodies a powerful truth: persons with disabilities need support from citizens and government to make a decent living and lead good public life.
Advocacy Brief Submission to Government
On October 14, 2025 LLWCI submitted a comprehensive advocacy brief on the state of mental health to the Akwa Ibom State Government and other relevant stakeholders including the State House of Assembly, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Women Affairs, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, and Uyo Local Government Chairmen. We presented an evidence-based analysis of the mental health crisis, identifying systemic gaps, and proposing seven specific advocacy points for transformation.
International Women's Day Celebration and Skills Acquisition training
On March 7, 2026, Little Light Women and Children Initiative partnered with DAS Generation for the International Women’s Day Conference 2026: “Rights. Justice. Action. Give to Gain.” Facilitators included Mrs. Ekemini George (women’s rights), Mrs. Blessing Nsiffiok Okon (giving & investment mindset), and Mrs. Queen Esther (liquid soap production training). We believe that Empowered Women Empower Women and we will keep showing up for them.
Digital Violence Awareness Exercise
On 18 February 2026, Little Light Women and Children Initiative carried out a digital violence awareness exercise with senior students at Anua Offot Community Comprehensive High School, Anua Offot, Uyo and it was a huge success. We engaged students in honest, eye-opening conversations about what digital violence really is, the many forms it takes, and the devastating effects it can have on a person’s mental health and wellbeing.
